Start pure

Beautiful artworks from Nanami Cowdroy – her creative journey described in this sweet webshort from Smirnoff. I’m a bit of a fan of brands acting as patron to aspiring artists. The perfect exchange of talent and reach, if it’s handled right (and having worked on Smirnoff in the UK, they were always open to artist collaboration, as evidenced by their Smirnoff nights). Nanami was also one of the artists they got [...]

The Olympics are coming

Sent to me by Tom, one of our client service Kats, this little film shows Coke brightening up a grey corner of my old hometown, in celebration of the impending London Olympics. Nice art but I wonder how long it’ll last before being covered over!

Longboarding

I recently rediscovered skateboards again at the age of 37. I also recently discovered that I don’t bounce up quite as quickly as I used to at 16, when I came off the board. I still have the scars 3 months later. Longboards have become popular again and I love the design of the shapes of the boards as well as the graphics they put on them. This video is [...]

Lana Del Ray - Video Games

Well what can I say. She’s gorgeous, the videoclip is beautifully shot and the song is a breath of fresh air from the usual synthesised voices of every single other female singer out there at the moment (okay maybe not all of them).

Hudsucker Proxy

The Cohen Brothers have made some awesome movies but I think my most favourite scene from any of their films is the Hula Hoop scene from the Hudsucker Proxy. It’s the perfect scene. I just wanna say scene one more time – scene.

The Truckin' Life

Tom and I have been lovin’ this book sick this week. It takes us back to a time when vans were cool and airbrushing was king. It was a time when an illustration of a moon rising over a distant planet was righteous and a mattress in the back meant comfortable viewing of Puberty Blues at the drive ins.

Maurice Sendak

I love Maurice Sendak, he is absolutely my most favourite illustrator and storyteller. I love him so much that I got some of his illustrations tattooed onto my body (before the Where The Wild Things Are movie was released of course, I’m much cooler than that). Where The Wild Things Are was my favourite book when I was a kid and I like to live my life by my favourite [...]

Post Modern Motorcycles

Post Modern Motorcyles take iconic Australian Postie bikes (the Honda CT110) and turn them into cool cafe racers. It’s not about speed, it’s about looks. In their own words their bikes provide the perfect antidote to high fuel prices and even higher carbon footprints with an economic sense of style born on the streets of Fitzroy, Melbourne. Don’t we all wish we could be described like this, I know I [...]

Nike - TheFilmRoom

I love the way Nike continue to position themselves as more than just a sports apparel company but rather a big brother to all amateur sports enthusiasts. Once again with the amazing work and technology developed by R/GA they have developed a tool to help amateurs, in this case basketball players, learn from and match their performance with professionals players and their idols. Similar to previous work like Nike+ for running and Head 2 Head for American [...]

OK Go with a bigger budget.

So you must have seen these guys dancing on treadmills in their basement and with one camera, 8 treadmills and next to no budget they have racked up over 11 million views on youtube since 2009. After various other successful viral music videos, it is safe to say that everything they touch turns to viral gold.  It is then no wonder why Chevrolet teamed up with them to make this unique [...]

Flash Fans: 2012 Budweiser Official Big Game Commercial

This takes the vote as our favourite Superbowl ad this year.  Budweiser use their extreme Superbowl budget to give some everyday people an experience they will never forget.  By turning a minor league/ social game of hockey in to a world cup experience by flash mobbing the game with everything from capacity house of spectators to commentators, cameras, lights, tickertape, body-painted fans, and mascots. A nice heartwarming clip along the [...]

Sh*t Perth People Say

“Sh*t Perth People Say” is a compilation of observations and oddities about the people in the most isolated city in the world – Perth.  It is also, as it turns out, a neat little case study in tapping into public sentiment and a social trend, rapidly creating bespoke content, and seeding it in the community. A good social idea isn’t just an entertaining bit of content, it’s something that enables a participative form [...]

Microsoft Re-Designs iPod Packaging

Here’s an old internal video created by Microsoft’s own packaging team that shows what it might look like if Microsoft were to re-design the iPod packaging. Basically it is a step by step guide of what not to do when it comes to design. This video illustrates the K.I.S.S principal perfectly and how it can easily be forgotten when people try to communicate more that one key message. The end [...]

Coca-Cola Burn

Knowing your audience and what turns them on paid off for Coca-Cola when they launched the Coke Burn project. It’s inspiring, feels authentic and is a great watch too. Check out the Case Study here.

Where's The Meerkat?

Have fun finding the ten hidden meerkats in this page taken from “Where’s the Meerkat?”. Written by Jen Wainwright and illustrated by Paul Moran, Steve Wiltshire and Simon Ecob.

Owning love

Clever little collaboration between The Satorialist, his blogger girlfriend Garance Dore and Tiffany, all curated and hosted on Instagram. Stories and images of love, romance tips as well as free music downloads all beautifully presented and wrapped in the Tiffany brand. See more here Via PSFK

The ro.me Project

Another fascinating Google experiment from Chris Milk and friends, who bought us The Wilderness Downtown. Initially bewildering – it changes animation styles rapidly – but once you get used to navigating through a constantly evolving and rendering 3D lansdcape it’s a case of ‘what will happen next?’… and ‘how do they do that?’.  You can even fly through the sky which renders with vertigo-inducing accuracy …crazy genius. Play here.

AWARD school 2012

Finding The Ideal Partner

A great idea that tugs on the heart strings. If you like animals, which I do, you will appreciate what this site is trying to do. It’s a strange one, but it’s common for owners to look like their pets. Doggelganger is a site that was developed by Colenso BBDO NZ for the Pedigree adoption drive in NZ,  helping to partner people with a dog that is up for adoption.  Once [...]
